She began her career in the industry at an early age having won local competitions at when she was 10 years old and recording for the first time at 14. Signed with Rounder Records, her first album came out in 1987. She was also invited to the group Alison Krauss Union Station where she still performs. Then, in 1989, her first solo album was released in conjunction with the band.
